Art in archiving
Shaili Malla, a young visual artist, is exhibiting paintings inspired by memories at Taragon Next, Bauddha.Post Report
Many of us are fond of archiving moments from our life in photographs, journals and videos because our memories are often fleeting. But for visual artist Shaili Malla, just a few photographs aren’t enough. With her first-ever solo exhibition, ‘Echoes from Yesterday,’ she’s on a mission to preserve her past in the most meaningful way possible.
Through the layers of her art practice, she recalls the good, bad and ugly that have shaped her psyche and, in turn, her life. In her works, Shaili blends different sensory elements as an artist to create a deep and meaningful experience. A wide range of techniques, including drawings, prints, digital art, and mixed media, accompany her paintings.
The exhibition is organised by Taragaon Next. ‘Taragaon Artist in Studio’ is a residency programme that began in 2018. The purpose of the residency is to provide support to emerging and young artists by providing them with the necessary tools, a studio, and guidance.
