Four missing as landslide buries houses in Taplejung

A total of four people went missing after a landslide washed away their house in ward 6 of Sidingba Rural Municipality of Taplejung district on Saturday night.
According to rural municipality vice chair Krishna Kumari Kadaria, three members of Yadav Budha Chhetri’s family and their neighbour Ganesh Tamang went missing following the landslide.
It is reported that Chhetri had gone to Pedang while his mother, wife and daughter were in the house.
Tamang, who owns a house between two rivers, sent his parents to a safer place following the rainfall, but is out of contact as of now, said local Diwas Bhandari.
Vice chair Kadaria said that although three houses were swept away in ward 3, details of the damage incurred are yet to be known.
Vehicles leaving for Panchthar, Ilam and Jhapa have been stranded after a flooded river swept away two bridges, according to Chief District Officer Goma Devi Chemjong.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajan Limbu said the flood in Mewa river washed away the road near Dobhan Bazaar, making it difficult for vehicles to operate.
A total of 15 families and five government offices in ward 8 of Sirijangha Rural Municipality were displaced due to the rainfall and the flood in the Kaveli river.
