Locals blocked the Khandbari-Manebhanjyang section of Koshi Highway on Thursday accusing the contractor of negligence in road construction and not carrying out periodic repairs. This section is part of the road connecting the Kimathanka border point with Biratnagar.

Transportation along the section has come to a complete halt following the obstruction.

The road section is riddled with potholes and becomes dangerously slippery after rains, making it difficult for vehicles to operate.

The blacktopping of the Khandbari-Num section has not been able to pick up speed although work began two years ago; only 25 percent of the work has been completed so far.

As per the contract agreement signed two years ago, blacktopping of the 39 km of the road should be completed within the coming nine months.
