Kanchanpur District Administration Office on Thursday imposed a week-long prohibitory order around the Sambidhan Chowk area of Mahendranagar.
As per the decision, any gatherings, protests or demonstrations have been prohibited along the road stretch from Madan Chowk to Dashrath Chowk for one week.
The decision was taken after the Rastriya Prajatantra Party announced a plan to hold a mass meeting in the area. The party also announced the unveiling of a statue of the late King Mahendra during the event.
According to Chief District Officer Gopal Kumar Adhikari, the order prohibits assemblies, gatherings and demonstrations in the area. The order has been imposed to maintain peace and order.
RPP chair Rajendra Lingden, Senior Vice Chair Rabindra Mishra, General Secretary Dhawal Shamsher Rana and Chief Whip of the party Gyanendra Shahi have reached Mahendranagar to attend the mass meet.
With the local administration’s new decision, the party has now changed its venue. Leaders said preparations are underway to organise the event on Sabjimandi road in the changed context.
The pro-monarchy and pro-Hindu state party RPP has announced protests demanding reinstatement of monarchy, Hindu state and the scrapping of provinces.
