Police detain Aarati Sah’s mother, brother
The duo stage protest outside the main entrance of the country's administrative hub, Singha Durbar, seeking justice for Sah.Post Report
Police on Monday detained Aarati Sah’s mother Nirmala and her brother Prem as they staged a protest outside Singha Durbar seeking justice.
They had reached the main entrance of the country's administrative hub saying that Aarati was murdered and the guilty were roaming scot-free. Police used force to take them under control.
The family members of the deceased have been staging a sit-in for the past 235 days saying they have been deprived of justice due to negligence by police. They had been staging the protest at Maitighar Mandal and later moved to Shanti Batika after the local administration designated the Maitighar-Baneshwar stretch a no-protest area.
Aarati, a 22-year-old woman from Dhanusha, was found dead under suspicious circumstances on May 21 last year. Her family has accused her husband’s family of beating Aarati to death for not bringing enough dowry. Police in December last year arrested Motibabu Sah, who is accused of murdering his wife Aarati.
Here are some photos of the protest captured by the Post’s photojournalist Prakash Chandra Timilsena.
