Rastriya Janamat Party chief CK Raut, 50 others arrested
Police takes 47 men and four women into custody.Post Report
Police on Monday arrested over 50 people, including Rastriya Janamat Party President CK Raut, who is also a federal lawmaker, from Maitighar.
According to Superintendent of Police Kumud Dhungel, also spokesperson for the District Police Range Kathmandu, 47 men and four women have been taken into custody for attempting to stage a protest in the ‘area prohibited for protests’.
“We arrested them for trying to stage a demonstration in the prohibited area,” Dhungel said.
The arrestees were marching towards Maitighar, demanding ‘Dhoti Day’ be observed alongside ‘Dhaka Topi Day’, which is celebrated on the first day of the English calendar.
They have been held at the Metropolitan Police Office in Bhrikutimandap, Dhungel said.
Raut-led party is also in the government.
