Roads and irrigation facilities have remained the major demands of the locals in Adarshakotwal Rural Municipality-5, Bara as the candidates are drumming up support for the upcoming third level of local elections.
Ram Suresh Yadav, a local, said that the leaders have been assuring them to develop their village for the past 26 years. “But they have always ignored our problems after winning the elections,” he said.
Sensing the public pulse, candidates are canvassing for votes with assurance that they would rebuilt the Tamagadhi-Simraungadh road which was damaged in several sections in the recent monsoon floods.
“Even ambulance cannot ply the road in the village,” said another local Bhola Mandal, adding that they are forced to carry patients to the hospitals on stretchers.
More than 25 families in the village said they rely on the waters of the Aduwa stream for irrigation. But with the steam running dry often, they cannot irrigate their farmlands properly.
Although the locals build temporary dams on the stream, they are often swept away by floods, said local Lakhichan Sah.
People of Bhagawanpur, Karchahawa, Teta, Paterawa and Simraungadh, among other eastern areas of the district, rely on the same water source. “This has often led to disputes among between people over water sharing,” said another local Paras Sah, adding that they would cast their votes to a leader who would address their concerns.
